Community Guidelines

Rooted Common Ground works best when people are respectful, honest, and kind to each other.
The spirit of Rooted Common Ground
These guidelines set the minimum standard. We aim to build a community based on respect, honesty, and mutual care.
You must not
- Harass, threaten, intimidate or abuse any member — online or in person.
- Discriminate against anyone based on age, disability, gender, race, religion, sexuality, or any other characteristic.
- Stalk, follow, or continue unwanted contact with a member after they have not responded or have asked you to stop.
- Impersonate another member, organisation or public figure.
- Post false, misleading or fraudulent listings or requests.
- Share another member's personal information without their consent (doxxing).
- Use Rooted Common Ground primarily for personal, community, or approved nonprofit purposes, and not for unauthorised commercial advertising or business promotion.
- Post content that is sexual, violent, hateful or illegal.
- Make false or malicious safety reports in bad faith — these waste resources and can harm innocent members.
- Attempt to manipulate trust tiers, Kindness balances, or area visibility through fraud, deception, automation, or other dishonest conduct.
- Use multiple accounts.
Posting content
- Be honest about what you're offering and what you need.
- Don't promise what you can't deliver.
- If something changes, communicate early — don't just disappear.
- Material costs must be agreed upfront. If relevant, bring receipts as proof of cost.
In-person meetings
- Meet new people in public first.
- Tell someone where you're going.
- Trust your instincts — you can always cancel.
- Use the confirmation selfie and code word where required by the platform's safety process.
Reporting
If something concerns you, report it. Don't retaliate. Don't escalate. Report and let the moderation team handle it. False reports made in bad faith are themselves a breach of these guidelines.
Consequences
Breaches are handled under our moderation process, which may include warnings, temporary restrictions, or removal depending on the nature and severity of the breach. Serious breaches may result in immediate removal. All decisions may be appealed.
