Why we exist
Our mission
Rooted Common Ground exists so that nobody is a stranger to the people who live nearest to them. We connect neighbours to exchange skills and time freely — earning Kindness, giving Love — so that help is never more than a street away, and nobody is left isolated by age, income, or lack of a smartphone.
We are building toward something that outlasts any one of us: land held in trust for the county for all future generations, communities that look after themselves, and a quiet proof that people are better together than apart.

Every hour has worth
One hour of anyone's time is never worth more than three times another's. Skill and effort are recognised, but nobody can price themselves out of belonging, and nobody's time is treated as worthless.
Love can't be bought
Kindness is earned. Love is given freely, with nothing expected back — a quiet record of who showed up for someone, untouched by money or gaming.
Trust is earned, not assumed
Every member begins as a stranger and becomes known through real exchanges, real vouches, and real human review — never an algorithm deciding who can be trusted.
Nobody left behind
Through the Buddy System and real human connection, we reach the people technology forgets — so that age, disability, or simply not owning a smartphone is never a reason to be excluded from community.
Privacy is not the price of belonging
Your name, your address, your details stay yours — encrypted, private, and never traded. Without advertising. Without algorithms. Without surveillance. Just people, helping people.

Why earn Kindness at all?
You never need Kindness in your account to ask for or receive help — that's not how this community works. So why earn it at all?
Earning Kindness is how your community gets to know you — and as you complete exchanges, you naturally progress through the trust tiers, moving from New Member through Active Member, Trusted Member, Community Pillar, and Steward. That progress is what unlocks things like raising an urgent need, becoming an Approved Builder in the heating programme, or eventually helping steward land for your community.
It's also simply how your neighbours see that you show up. A strong Kindness record is a quiet signal of trust — the same way Love is a quiet signal of how much someone is cared for. Neither one is required to belong here. Both are how belonging becomes visible.
Your balance can go below zero, and that's completely fine. Nobody is ever turned away from help because of their balance. Give what you can, when you can — that's the whole idea.
