Approved Builders

Become an Approved Rooted Common Ground Builder

Rooted Common Ground Approved Builders are local welders, fabricators, metalworkers, and skilled makers who build our open-specification heaters for elderly and vulnerable neighbours in their area. You earn Kindness for every heater you build, you use local materials, and you make a real difference to people who are cold. You do not need to be a professional — a competent DIYer with welding or metalwork skills is welcome to apply.

To become an Approved Builder you must

  • Be a verified Rooted Common Ground member (any trust tier)
  • Have relevant skills and experience in metalwork, welding, or fabrication
  • Agree to build only to the Rooted Common Ground Open Build Specification
  • Agree to include a BS EN 50291 certified CO alarm with every build
  • Agree to the Builder Code of Conduct
  • Have your first build inspected and signed off by a Community Pillar or admin
